Where Fairy Tales Live

For more than 50 years, the German Fairy Tale Route has been inviting guests to discover history and experience stories.

On a magical route past impressive natural landscapes, cultural heritage and sights we invite you and your loved ones to (re-)discover beloved and well-known Fairy Tales from your childhood and escape into Sagas and Legends.

The Route begins in Hanau, near Frankfurt, where the brothers Grimm were born. A large national monument of Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm on the market square in der Brüder-Grimm-Stadt Hanau, dem Geburtsort der Brüder Grimm, beginnt die Deutsche Märchenstraße. Am imposanten Denkmal für Jacob und Wilhelm auf dem Neustädter Marktplatz ist ihr offizieller Ausgangspunkt.

Afterwards, the route continues through three more villages and cities, where the Brothers lived and worked. More than 60 Places are also connected to Fairy Tales, Legends and Sagas written by the Brothers Grimm until Bremen. The sculpture of the Bremen Town Musicians is the end of the Fairy Tale Route.

Through stunning forests, small villages with half-timbered houses, buzzing cities, castles, and the famous Weser River, many of your favorite stories can be experienced.
