In the 18th century, Bad Rehburg was designed in an artful way by the Hanover royal family.
The art of landscape design began in Germany in the 18th century. During this time, Bad Rehburg was able to enjoy a particularly artistic design by the Hanoverian royal family, which had brought Bad Rehburg into fashion as a health resort and lovingly called it "Madeira of the North".
During the heyday of the Royal Spa, promenading in the woods around Bad Rehburg was part of a spa stay like bathing itself. What garden master Tatter began in 1770 was adopted 70 years later by Christian Schaumburg, the creator. Curved paths accompanied by babbling watercourses or high mountainous rocks conveyed a wide variety of landscape experiences. From every vantage point one could see the fortress Wilhelmstein in the Steinhuder Meer or the church tower Bergkirchen. Forestry Director Heinich Christian Burckhard (1811 - 1879) was the last "specialist" to take care of the facilities.
Over the decades and centuries, the paths and squares fell into a deep slumber and were only accessible to the initiated. Now the town of Rehburg-Loccum has been able to restore part of the "historic promenades" with resting places and visual axes with wonderful views over a length of around four kilometers in cooperation with forest owners and the Lower Saxony State Forests, as well as with the generous support of the Lower Saxony store.
Stroll along the "historic promenades", past wonderful lines of sight and relaxing resting places, which are dedicated to the relatives and get an idea of the former splendor.
