description: "The climb takes you up a total of 165 steps through the historic north tower of St. Nicolai Church. Already on the first few levels, you’ll pass the tower clock, which has been in operation since 1851 and continues to tell the time reliably to this day. A few floors higher is the Lemgo carillon with its 22 bells. As you climb higher, the tower’s architectural style changes: the massive masonry gives way to the striking spire. Here, a historic tower hatch serves as a reminder of how the tower keeper used to have to transport food and fuel to his high-up apartment. You’ll then reach the tower keeper’s quarters, where the tower keepers lived and worked until the tower-keeping service was discontinued in 1854.Finally, you’ll reach the observation deck—the tower keeper’s former workplace. From here, an impressive view of Lemgo unfolds in three directions. Through the historic openings, you can see, among other things, the market square with its magnificent townhouses, Mittelstraße, and Brake Castle. You can obtain the key to climb the church tower at the Lemgo Tourist Information Office (Kramerstraße 1).
