The historic town hall of Hann. Münden is one of the most important buildings of the Weser Renaissance

The original building was erected around 1400. At the beginning of the 17th century, it was remodelled in the Weser Renaissance style. The town hall was given an elaborate and colourful decorative façade, representing the power and wealth of the city at the time.

With its magnificent portal, the three dwarf houses and the two-storey bay window, the so-called "Utlucht" on the north front, the town hall forms a contrast to the plain-looking Welfenschloss. Today, the town hall houses the registry office and the tourist information centre.

Inside, there are two halls, one above the other. In the 1920s, the lower town hall was decorated with murals depicting the town's history. On the outer façade of the north portal, numerous water level marks remind us of past floods.

The carillon in the town hall gable above the entrance portal sounds three times a day. The figures in the carillon depict a treatment by the legendary travelling physician Johann Andreas Eisenbart. The carillon can be seen at 12:00, 15:00 and 17:00.

A brochure with the text of the Ironbeard Song is available from the Tourist Information Centre in the town hall.
