The ensemble of palace, Guildhall, St. Catherine's Church and Puppet Theatre, grouped around the market place at the Fairy-Tale Well is unique.

German Fairy Tale Route tip
The Brothers Grimm spent a happy childhood in Steinau. The magistrate's house was the home of the Grimm family. Today you will find the “Brothers GrimmHaus” on this spot. Using interactive stations, the museum succeeds in providing a rich experience of the life, works and world-renowned fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm. The famous tales can be seen, heard and felt while you immerse yourself in the colourful world of the Grimm fairy tales. Enjoy viewing the old fairytale editions, brilliant illustrations and fairytale figures. The modern, attractively furnished museum awakens childhood memories and lets the tales of the Brothers Grimm come alive. In any event, the puppet play “The Holzköppe” is a must-see event. In the summer, the theatre plays a Grimm fairy tale almost daily. An annual cultural highlight in the autumn is the“Steinauer puppeteering days” festival. Theatre ensembles from all over Germany perform Grimm's fairy tales and other stories for young and old. Highlights are the Steinauer premiere, the opening breakfast and the long night of figure theatre.
