Hofgeismar - surprising, lively, diversified

The half-timbered and Sleeping Beauty town of Hofgeismar is located in the middle of the Reinhardswald nature park, in the three-state corner of Hesse / Westphalia / Lower Saxony and only approx. 25 km away from the Documenta city of Kassel with UNESCO World Heritage status.
Quiet old town corners, historic half-timbered buildings, a spacious pedestrian zone and the beauty of the surrounding landscape of the nature park Reinhardswald give the city and its districts a very special charm and contribute significantly to the feel-good factor. There are many options for long hikes, walks and bike rides.

Hofgeismar for friends of fairy tales
The Sleeping Beauty Castle Sababurg is outstanding. It is the fairytale castle of the Brothers Grimm and impresses with its mighty location in the Reinhardswald in the Hofgeismar district of Sababurg.
Since 2018, the state of Hesse has been renovating the Sababurg as owner. Until it can be fully reopened, extensive renovation measures are still needed from the building to the palace garden. The sleeping beauty town of Hofgeismar in the Reinhardswald Nature Park is endeavouring in cooperation with the state of Hesse to enable the opening of the enchanted complex with castle courtyard and sun terrace even during the extensive renovation work. We are also working on a fairytale-like range of events. Then, for example, Sleeping Beauty and Prince stroll through the castle at selected times.
On the city website we keep you up to date on what you can experience in the months of April to October on the Sababurg. Please inform us before arrival about the current state of the renovation work and therefore any restrictions! www.hofgeismar.de
Close to the fairytale castle is the Sababurg wildlife park with nature park information centre. The zoo is the oldest preserved wildlife park in Germany. Only a footpath away is the Sababurg forest, the oldest protected area in Hesse with mighty old Hute oaks. Further holiday ideas from the nature park tour to the city tour can be found on the nature park website www.naturpark-reinhardswald.de
The way to the wildlife park, below the castle, is not far away – there are various gastronomic options available here.
- Restaurant "Zum Thiergarten": Tel. 05671 / 766 499 90 – Entrance without entrance to the zoo –

Hofgeismar for vacationers and day trippers

Whether for sightseeing, shopping, strolling or stopping off at a stop - everyone gets their money's worth here - by the way, parking is free in the city center.
Countless hiking and trekking trails, great nature experiences throughout the year and plenty of space for sporting activities such as biking, canoeing or gliding make a stay so varied.
Visitors can experience history in various museums, churches and a popular destination for locals and guests are the facilities in the former Bad Hofgeismar with the Gesundbrunnen.
