Haarberg

Short facts

  • Rehburg-Loccum

The 86-metre-high Haarberg was the first ancestral seat of the von Münchhausen family.

Even the ancestors of the "Baron of Lies" Hieronymus von Münchhausen were able to enjoy a sweeping view of the countryside as far as the Steinhuder Meer from the Haarberg. Today, only a memorial stone refers to the fall of the village of Münchhausen (Mönnekehusen) in 1519.

However, the former Münchhausen baptismal font, which was given to the pastor at the time, and the base of the pulpit from the former chapel can still be found in the church in Rehburg.

The viewpoint with the refuge on the Haarberg can only be reached on foot or by bike.
