On the occasion of this year's European River Swimming Day, the international "Big Jump" will take place at the Weserstein in Hann. Münden on July 12, 2026.
The swimmers will start at 2 p.m. from the legendary Weserstein in Hann. Münden (river km 0.0) and swim approx. 9 km downstream to the Vaake district in the Weser community of Reinhardshagen. There, the swimmers will disembark at the jetty on the left bank at river km 9.2.
The Europe-wide campaign is intended to draw attention to the fight for more water protection in European waters, especially rivers. With the Big Jump from the Weserstein, the three-river town of Hann. Münden is drawing attention for the eleventh time to the ongoing salinization and other pollution of the Werra, Fulda and Weser rivers, which is depriving the river life living there of its livelihood. It is also intended to make river swimming possible for one day a year.
The Big Jump is not a swimming competition! As swimming in rivers is only safe under supervision, it may only take place under the supervision of organizations such as the THW and lifeguards such as the DLRG and DRK Wasserwacht, who have already provided professional support for the event in previous years.
This requires a high number of qualified personnel, which is why a participation fee of 10 euros is collected to be passed on to the aid organizations.
Participation is open to swimmers aged fourteen and over. Younger swimmers may only take part if accompanied by appropriately qualified supervisors, such as adults with parental authority or swimming instructors.
