Former parish church of St. Peter

The parish church of St. Peter was founded around the year 1000 or shortly thereafter on the western edge of the market town of Höxter and was not incorporated into the old town until the town wall was built from 1152 onwards.

After the destruction of the town of Corvey in 1265, the Niggenkerken monastery was moved from Corvey to St Peter's Church. Its dean, later the town or parish dean, led the Catholic parish clergy in Höxter and the "Corvey countryside".

Under Napoleonic rule, the Petri Church was demolished in 1810/11 and a central citizen's school was built in its place. Today, the building of the Höxter municipal administration is located on the site. The special window cut-outs on the building are intended to reflect the former location of the Petri Church.
