Skulptur "Wiehernder Hengst"

Short facts

  • Nienburg (Weser)

Gerhard Marcks, bronze

The bronze sculpture is one of three casts. Aachen and Giessen are two other locations. The "neighing stallion" in front of the theater on the Hornwerk is probably Nienburg's most important sculpture in terms of art history. The creator of the 3.35 meter high bronze steed, Gerhard Marcks, is one of the most renowned expressionist sculptors in Germany alongside Käthe Kollwitz and Ernst Barlach. The "neighing stallion" was unveiled on the occasion of the inauguration of the theater and the opening of the "Weserschlößchen" in 1989.
