Kassel Loop

to Mother Hulda, Red Riding Hood, and Snow White

Enchanting cycling experiences in the Heart of the German Fairy Tale Route

Discover the fairy-tale heartland of the Brothers Grimm by bike! Starting from the documenta city of Kassel, you will explore romantic half-timbered towns, ride through enchanting river valleys, and climb green hills with beautiful views. This 330 km circular route, divided into six stages, is best suited for experienced touring e-bike riders. Your bike should have suitable tires, as some sections include gravel forest tracks – though most of the route is well developed.

The route: From Kassel, you cycle through the Kaufungen Forest to Hessisch Lichtenau, home of Frau Holle. Next, the Fulda Valley awaits, with the charming half-timbered towns of Melsungen and Rotenburg an der Fulda. Another highlight is the “Red Riding Hood Land” railway cycle path in the Knüll region. Via Homberg (Efze), you continue into the Kellerwald, known as the home of Snow White. With a stop in the cathedral town of Fritzlar, the route then leads back to Kassel across the scenic heights of the Habichtswald Nature Park. Overnight stays take place in romantic half-timbered towns, surrounded by a truly fairy-tale setting.
