Experience the German Fairy Tale Route in a whole new way – by bike!
Over the course of three weeks, you can experience the diverse landscapes and towns of the German Fairy Tale Route by bike. Between Hanau and Buxtehude, follow in the footsteps of the Brothers Grimm and immerse yourself in the fairy-tale heart of Germany: gentle valleys with charming half-timbered towns and riverside cycle paths alternate with the heights of low mountain ranges. Discover destinations and landscapes that still lie largely off the beaten tourist track.
Wherever possible, the route follows existing long-distance cycle paths, linking the key stops along the German Fairy Tale Route. Due to the varied topography, the use of an e-bike is recommended – especially in the southern section between Hanau and Bad Karlshafen, where four low mountain ranges must be crossed.
In the route descriptions, key points are marked with stage distances in kilometers.
During your journey, it is advisable to carry paper cycling maps as a backup alongside your GPS track on a smartphone or tablet. The ADFC regional maps at a scale of 1:75,000 are particularly suitable: despite the larger scale, they remain detailed, and just five map sheets are enough to cover the main route from Hanau to Bremen.
