The narrow, winding Fulda Valley with its wooded slopes accompanies cyclists for almost 30 kilometers from Kassel to Hann. The Fulda R1 cycle path follows the left bank of the river parallel to the road and is easy to cycle on.
Hann. Münden dates back to a Carolingian settlement. In the early 12th century, the Landgraves of Thuringia founded a town in the estuary triangle between the Werra and Fulda, where the new Weser river was born. The Weser Stone with the verse by Hoffmann von Fallersleben from 1899 stands exactly where the two rivers meet: "Where Werra and Fulda kiss, they must atone for their names. And here, through this kiss German to the sea, the Weser River is born."
After the relaxed cycle route along the Fulda, a strenuous ascent through the Reinhardswald forest begins. The path is mainly asphalted, but there are also natural forest paths at altitude. In the forest before Immenhausen, you come to the Märchenland cycle path, which is signposted with the symbol of the royal crown. Along the way are Immenhausen and Grebenstein, another half-timbered town with remains of the town wall. Hofgeismar is soon in sight. The market square in the old town is surrounded by half-timbered houses. The "legend of the dice tower" is located in Hofgeismar.
