Eastern Cycle Tour 01 - Stage Kassel - Hessisch Lichtenau

Initially flat and asphalted. In Niestetal forest paths but easy to cycle on. Ascent in Kaufunger Wald, then flat via the Herkules-Wartburg cycle path, well signposted, suitable for families except for the ascent

Follow the Fulda cycle path for a while through Kassel's Südstadt district and the Karlsaue state park with its baroque orangery. The route then takes you through the green Nieste valley along forest edge paths through the village of Nieste and the southernmost village in Lower Saxony, Dahlheim. A long climb is followed by a rapid descent to Oberkaufungen.
A beautiful place, characterized by half-timbered houses, just like the next villages and small towns on the route. Helsa and Hessisch Lichtenau are among them, where Mother Hulda shakes out the beds.
