Fürstenberg

Fürstenberg is a municipality in the district of Holzminden and a state-approved excursion destination. Situated about 80 m above the Weser, Fürstenberg enjoys a uniquely beautiful location. From no other place on the Upper Weser is there such a breathtaking panoramic view over the Weser valley to the neighbouring states of North Rhine-Westphalia and Hesse.  Since 1747 Fürstenberg has been home to one of the oldest porcelain factories in Europe high above the Weser. The castle ensemble of the FÜRSTENBERG porcelain works, consisting of the castle with its modern museum and visitors' workshop, the factory outlet and the newly designed Bistro Carl, is a magnificent monument to the Weser Renaissance.

Fürstenberg  for friends of fairy tales

Once upon a time..." - that's how all fairy tales begin and entice the listeners to distant times and countries. This is also the case in Fürstenberg: the knight's castle, the ducal hunting lodge, the almost legendary foundation of the porcelain works. But while other fairy tales end with a princess riding off with her prince – "happily ever after" – Fürstenberg goes on and on. The porcelain works and the palace ensemble are a place of modern fairy tales, where between 'White Gold' you can dream of festive tables from bygone times as well as be enchanted by living craftsmanship.

The modern museum presents a fascinating FÜRSTENBERG exhibition in eight themed rooms on the history of the factory, the art of decoration, form design and technology. A modern presentation with exciting interactive stations allows visitors to experience the fascination of porcelain.

All questions about porcelain from FÜRSTENBERG are answered in the visitors' workshop in the castle. The porcelain makers demonstrate how FÜRSTENBERG porcelain is produced and decorated. Here visitors can also fulfil their wish for a very personal souvenir by painting a piece of porcelain from FÜRSTENBERG.

Precious porcelain, exclusive table linen and accessories – discover the finest tableware and be inspired. In the factory outlet you will find the complete FÜRSTENBERG collection, supplemented with extravagant designer pieces.

Historical Tidbits.

Fürstenberg's location in the middle of the Weser mountain region, on the border to North Rhine-Westphalia and Hesse, predestined the castle to be a border post at first. Later it was used as a hunting lodge by the dukes of Brunswick. Since 1747, the castle has been home to the FÜRSTENBERG porcelain works. In the castle courtyard, visitors can obtain interesting information on the history of the castle and the factory through "historical windows”.
