Devil's cave Steinau (Teufelshöhle Steinau)

Cave / Stalactite Cavern
Oldest of two stalactite caves in Hesse
The devil, who plays a role in many Grimm fairy tales, also plays a role in the history of the Steinauer stalactite cave "Devil's Cave".

In 1584, for example, a shepherd was tending his cows when a calf suddenly disappeared from the ground. The earth had swallowed a calf, only the devil could be at work! In those days people stayed away from the cave out of fear. However, in the 19th century, scientific curiosity overcame fear of the devil and excavations began.

Today guests can admire the special stalactites and even the "face of the devil". During a 30-40 minute tour you will immerse yourself in a special world that will leave you with unforgettable impressions.
