The Hanstein - legends and legends entwine around it. The most beautiful castle ruins in Germany

The Hanstein - It is considered the most beautiful castle ruin in Central Germany and shapes the image of the Eichsfeld with its unmistakable silhouette.

The landscape of Hanstein Castle is in one of the most attractive areas of the Eichsfeld. If you stand on the preserved keep and look down, you can see the mountains of the Thuringian Forest in the distance on your right hand, followed by the Hohe Meißner, in the north the Göttingen mountains, in front of that the Rusteberg, then the mountains of the Eichsfeld and finally in front of you the Werra valley. Due to its location, this silhouette can be seen from afar from the west. The builders took advantage of the rock there. The castle can be reached on a steep path from Bornhagen and is located on a red sandstone rock.

The free location still gives us a wide view over the wide valley of the Leine, where in earlier times the greatest danger threatened. Today exhibitions and concerts take place here regularly. Annual highlights are the house nativity scene exhibition in Advent and the medieval festival with knight games and exciting music performance on the first weekend in August. Below Hanstein Castle is the Klausenhof, an old tavern with a historic inn, which is closely connected to Hanstein Castle
