Salt Museum
Brine and salt have determined the history of Bad Sooden-Allendorf for centuries. Salt was once rare, expensive and the extraction was complex; it was indispensable for seasoning and preserving food. Today, the positive health effects of brine benefit the respiratory tract, muscles and joints.
When you visit the museum, you will find information about the salt spring, salt extraction in earlier times and the transport of the "white gold" on the old salt roads. A special piece of the exhibition is the precious copy of the "Salt Bible" by Johannes Rhenanus from the 17th century. Outside and scattered around the town, you can marvel at other large pieces of equipment from the former salt works. When you visit the graduation works, you are also doing something good for your health.
By the way, the Söder Tor was once the entrance to the salt works of Bad Sooden-Allendorf and controlled comings and goings at the salt works to prevent smuggling of the precious salt.
