Regionale Archäologie und Stadtgeschichte Steinheim

First mentioned in 1222, Steinhei Castle was owned by the Electorate of Mainz for around 370 years. In 1808/13 conversions were carried out in the classical style, which shape the appearance of the building today. The building has been used as a museum since 1938.
The museum deals with the first human traces in the Hanau area, evidence of the Stone and Bronze Ages and the legacies of the Romans up to relics of the early Middle Ages. Other rooms of the museum are dedicated to the changeful history of the former stately castle complex as well as the city history of Steinheim. A key part of the presentation is the city model that Steinheim shows around 1560.
