Frau Holle pond

Short facts

  • Meißner

According to legend, the silver castle of Frau Holle stands at the bottom of the pond.

The water of the Frau Holle pond fills a depression on the edge of the Hohe Meißner. Where the Frau Holle pond can be found today, fine particles (clays) have sealed the subsoil. The water accumulates on the clay layer.

A multitude of legends entwine around this pond, one of which the Brothers Grimm published in the "Deutsche Sagen".

The large wooden figure by the artist Viktor Donhauser has been standing by the pond since 2004, marking the lesser-known legendary figure of Frau Holle.
