Hans Staden sculpture
Hans Staden was born in Homberg (Efze) around 1525. He was a German mercenary in the service of Portuguese settlers. From 1548 to 1555 he took part in two expeditions to the Atlantic coast of Brazil and had many adventures to survive. Back in Europe and in Hesse, he became a citizen of the city of Wolfhagen and summarized his travel reports in the "Warhaftig Historia".
The sculpture was created in 2018 by the artist Karin Bohrmann-Roth and is at the beginning of a path that is in development and will gradually lead through the inner city of Wolfhagen over the next few years.
Wolfhagen has had the additional designation of Hans-Staden-Stadt since 2019.
