Hessian Spessart Nature Park

Nature Parcs
The Spessart is a local recreation area at the gates of the Rhine-Main region and is framed by the Main, Kinzig and Sinn. It is one of the largest contiguous forest areas in central Germany.

The Hessischer Spessart Nature Park was founded in 1963 and extends over 74,000 hectares. Around 60 percent of this is forested, primarily with oaks and beeches. The Hessian Spessart offers the ideal livelihood for many endangered animal species, such as the beaver, which has settled there again for several years, or the wildcat.
Many marked hiking trails lead visitors through the largest deciduous forest area in Germany. A tourist highlight is the premium hiking trail "Spessartbogen", which provides many moments of happiness and enjoyment over a stretch of almost 90 kilometers - from Langenselbold to Schlüchtern. The pleasure of hiking is crowned by seven extra tours, the "Spessart Trails" and the new walking trails, the "Spessart Trails", which open up small-scale hiking paradises. But mountain bike fans will also get their money's worth in the Spessart:

A sophisticated and well-marked network of trails with 22 tours in nine cities and municipalities with over 650 kilometers and more than 12,000 meters of altitude awaits you! In addition, the “Ambassadors of the Spessarts” - around 60 voluntary nature park guides - invite you to many exciting and educational tours for every target group and every age group almost every weekend.

Experience and enjoy the Hessian Spessart Nature Park with all your senses!

More information

The Spessart shop window in the historic Schafhof building in Burgjoss has opened its doors: Located directly at the Burgwiesenpark, it welcomes visitors to the Spessart and offers insights and views of a special landscape.
There you will find information about hiking and mountain biking, as well as flyers, the annual program, maps and books. On 75 square meters of exhibition space, visitors can find out about leisure activities, tourist and cultural offers, learn a lot of interesting and entertaining facts about the landscape and nature and buy regional products. The exhibition area on the first floor includes information and presentation of offers and products from the region. The focus is on active holiday offers such as hiking on the Spessartbogen or the Spessart tracks and trails as well as mountain biking.
Regional products from direct marketers are offered in the Spessart shop window - there you will also find attractive gift ideas made of wood and clay.
In a regional corner, culinary treasures of the region are presented and offered for sale: sweet and savory spreads, pasta, products made from local herbs, fruity wines and honey products. In the attic, visitors will find an interactive information system on the Spessart. Using the touchscreen, you can learn a lot about the habitat, the cultural landscape, animals and plants as well as recreational and leisure facilities in the region.
Events for young and old are regularly offered in the new premises. You can find information on this at www.schaufenster-spessart.de.
