Short facts

  • Meißner

The famous poppy blossom in Germerode attracts thousands of visitors every year with its pink fields

The well-known poppy blossom in Germerode attracts thousands of visitors to Mother Hulda's local mountain every year with its pink fields and many events.
When the pink poppy fields on the "Hoher Meißner" are in bloom from around the summer solstice, there is a state of emergency in Germerode, because everyone wants to see the poppy blossom.

The approx. 3-4 km long poppy seed hiking trail leads from the poppy seed shop through the fields to views and photo points. Those who do not like to walk can use the tractor-powered covered wagons, the "poppy-seed snails" and enjoy not only the poppy seeds but also the summer colorful Mother Hulda's flower meadows.

In the middle of the fields, the barn "Mohntenne" with its culinary specialties is a popular meeting place. Many of the events related to the poppy blossom take place here. The photo exhibition of the winning photos of the photo competition is set up in the monastery. In the poppy cinema, poppy cultivation is presented in an endless loop.
