Schloss Schwöbber

Short facts

  • Aerzen

One of the great and famous castles of the Weserbergland

Built around 1570 by Hilmar von Münchhausen, Schwöbber Castle is one of the great buildings of the Weser Renaissance and is known far beyond the borders of Aerzen. Tsar Peter the Great even visited Schwöbber in 1716. He was interested in the largest exotic plant collection in Europe at the time, with orangeries for growing pineapples. The 8-hectare English garden that surrounds the castle is the earliest on the European continent and is still a popular place for a walk or a picnic today.

After extensive renovation, the castle was opened in 2004 as the 5-star Schlosshotel Münchhausen with a star-rated and atmospheric gourmet restaurant and two other restaurants. You are welcome to stop by and let yourself be pampered! Hikers and cyclists are also welcome here.
