The stork station in Elbrinxen

Info Centres
A magical place of wildlife
The district of Elbrinxen is also affectionately known as the stork village. The reason for this is the stork station where numerous young storks see the light of day every spring. The idyllically located, around 2,500 square meters large stork area is located directly on the Wörmke, which flows through the village.

The area is home to numerous pairs of white storks and their young. Every spring, the seven Elbrinx stork pairs build nests for their offspring on nest substructures specially built for the storks. Each pair incubates three to four eggs for 33 days until around 20 young are born in May. A camera attached to one of the nests that transmits the images to the clubhouse allows the young animals to be observed as they are rearing. The clatter of the storks can be heard from afar during this time. It gets particularly exciting when the young storks make their first attempts at flight and a few days later they make their first rounds of the village with their parents and look for delicacies in the fields.

In the middle to the end of August, the young set off towards the south, and the parent animals follow a few weeks later. Thanks to a marking on the foot, the Elbrinx origin of the animals can always be traced back. However, four couples in Elbrinxen both feel that they are wintering here. Thanks to the caring support of the stork club, the animals lack nothing, even in winter.
