Obernburg ruins

Short facts

  • Gudensberg

The Obernburg on the Schlossberg was once the seat of the Hessian counts.

However, it was badly damaged during the Thirty Years 'War and the 7 Years' War. Today parts of the walls, the substructure of the keep and the castle gate of the more than 800 year old complex are still preserved.

Fantastic view of the Fritzlar Cathedral, Borkens water tower, over the basement and Söhre forest. Since May 2006 the castle has been used as an exhibition space for art exhibitions.
