The former castle had the dimensions of the Wartburg. It was destroyed in the so-called "Star War" in the 14th century and not rebuilt, although it is said to have been partially habitable until the 16th century.
In addition, the castle was once besieged by thieves and looters who visited the city regularly. They didn't want to put up with it, which is why they polluted the only water source of the castle occupiers in a very special way. Since then, the citizens of Rotenburg have been called "Bornschisser" .
A hiking trail leads from the car park at the cardiovascular center to the castle ruins.
