The route starts at Höxter station. The Weser cycle path can be reached quickly from the platform. Before that, however, you can take a tour of the beautiful old town. Höxter is a town with half-timbered houses worth seeing and remains of the former town wall. Just outside is Corvey Abbey, one of the five World Heritage Sites in North Rhine-Westphalia. The Carolingian westwork on the monastery church in particular contributed significantly to the award of the title in 2014. The cycle path to Holzminden winds close to the Weser. To reach the town, you have to cross the Weser again. Holzminden is also a nice little town. In addition to the romantic Luther Church, the pretty half-timbered houses are also eye-catching. The 18 scent stelae in the town center, which you can explore "always following your nose", are unique. The scents and aromas are accompanied by interesting information. This is why Holzminden is also known as the "city of fragrances", as one of the world's largest manufacturers of fragrances is based here.
Polle is the home of Cinderella. A yaw rope ferry takes interested cyclists quickly from the Weser cycle path to the other side to the castle ruins, where the fairytale Cinderella is performed every third Sunday in summer. From the ruins, you also have a wonderful view of the Weser with the ferry.
The next stop is the Münchhausen town of Bodenwerder. Baron von Münchhausen lived here and told his fantastic tall tales to his friends. Rudolf Erich Raspe wrote them down and published them in England, where they quickly spread. The Göttingen poet Gottfried August Bürger translated them back into German and added more stories, so that they quickly became popular in Germany too. A museum and several monuments were erected in the town in honor of its famous son.
