From Zeven, follow the signs for the HH-HB cycle route via Heeslingen and Weertzen to Sittensen. The craftsmen's museum in the historic mill uses authentically furnished workshops to show how shoemakers, watchmakers and blue printers used to work. Not far from here, you will come across the restored local history museum with Niedersachsenhaus, bakehouse, granary and sheepfold, idyllically situated on the Oste river.

The Tister Bauernmoor begins near Burgsittensen, a unique moorland landscape which, as a nature reserve and bird sanctuary, offers thousands of birds on their way north or south of Europe ideal terrain for resting and roosting. The moor railroad takes visitors to the 6.50 m high observation tower, from where you can experience this natural spectacle up close.

North of Heidenau, you bump along a short stretch of cobblestones, followed by a gravel road. In Hollenstedt, the route then changes to the Este cycle path towards Buxtehude. Along the way, there is a beautiful watermill in Moisburg, which has been converted into a museum. It is worth stopping off there. Buxtehude is now not far away.
Via the old town with its canals and half-timbered buildings in the North German clinker style, you reach the Hare and Hedgehog Fountain. This is where the German Fairytale Route ends.

Still not ridden your bike enough? No problem: the Brothers Grimm moved from Kassel to Berlin in 1841. Here they continued their work on the German Dictionary. Berlin is not connected to the German Fairy Tale Route. This is because Germany was still divided when it was founded in 1975.

Today, it is possible to travel on to Berlin. From Buxtehude, the German capital can be reached via the long-distance cycle paths along the Elbe and Havel rivers.

All of the Grimm brothers' homes in Berlin were destroyed during the Second World War. The graves of honor can be found in the Old St. Matthew's Churchyard in Schöneberg. Wilhelm Grimm was buried here in 1859, Jakob Grimm died in 1863. There are several fairytale fountains in Berlin: The most famous is the large fairytale fountain in Volkspark Friedrichshain with motifs from new folk tales. Other fountains include the Frog King Fountain in Pankow, the Neukölln Fairytale Fountain and the Gänseliesel Fountain in Wilmersdorf.

Rabbit and hedgehog route - on the way along fairytale paths
Length: 37 kilometers (round trip)
Signage: Has'und Igelroute logo
"Ick bün all dor" is what the hedgehog once said to the hare in the fairy tale of the same name, which is said to have taken place many years ago on the outskirts of our Hanseatic town of Buxtehude.
Where the hare and the hedgehog once raced against each other, there is also plenty to discover outside the historic old town of Buxtehude. The route leads through the tranquil Estetal valley and the Neukloster Forest with its tall, large beech forests.
