Weser Uplands Cycle Tour - Stage Lüdge - Höxter
Alternating ascents and descents, often on minor roads with little traffic, regional signposting to Vörden, then well-developed European Cycle Route R 1 to Höxter

Difficulty level: ★★☆☆
Trail quality: ★★★☆
Signage: ★★☆☆

From the town hall in the old town, the tour follows the signposted route of the NRW cycle network towards Schiedersee. The route takes you off the main road. The natural, hilly route has a gravel surface in places.

There is a refreshment stop near the dam wall at Schiedersee (km 7). Continue along the southern lakeside path to the leisure center with the "Funtastico" family park and refreshment stops (km 10). If you wish, you can take a round trip on a passenger boat on the reservoir from here. The route now takes you through Schieder Castle Park. There is a miniature golf course here. The castle at km 12 offers a refreshment stop. There is a small baroque garden to the south of the building.

The tour leads through Schieder on low-traffic routes away from the cycle path signs. You reach the small country town of Schwalenberg via Brakelsiek on cycle paths along country roads. The small, cozy old town with its half-timbered town hall lies at the top of the hill (km 19). The castle in Schwalenberg is used as a restaurant.

A moderately busy country road is used for 2 km between Schwalenbeerg and Born. From the hamlet of Born, the scenery is beautiful on hilly farm tracks towards Marienmünster. The paths without cycle path markings are partly gravel.

The former Marienmünster Abbey is reached at km 25. In the "FORUM Abtei" visitor center, a multimedia exhibition provides information about the former abbey. The abbey garden invites you to visit. The abbey church is now used by the local Catholic community. The building can be visited. There is also a refreshment stop on the site. A walk along the monastery pond can round off the visit.

Vörden is quickly reached via the underpass on the downhill cycle path. If you wish, you can take an attractive detour to the "Hungerberg" viewing tower between Marienmünster and Vörden: The tower is accessible via a fairly steep, gravel forest path. You may therefore want to leave your bike at the vacation village and take the forest route to the tower as a walk (700 m easy detour in total). From the freely accessible tower at an altitude of 350 m, you can enjoy a beautiful panoramic view over the Weserbergland.

In the center of Vörden at km 27 you can stop for refreshments. Vörden Castle is privately owned and cannot be visited. However, the grounds can be viewed from the freely accessible castle park.

From Vörden, the tour leads along the signposted and well-developed European Cycle Route R 1 towards Höxter. The traffic-free route is also part of D-Route 3. From Vörden to the hamlet of Eiversen (km 29), the route climbs another 50 meters. From Eiversen, the bike rolls downhill almost on its own for long stretches to Höxter. The loop ends at Höxter station at 43 km.
