Welcome to the German Fairy Tale Route
About the Route
The German Fairy Tale Route begins in the Brothers Grimm city of Hanau (near Frankfurt), their birthplace. Its official starting point is the imposing monument to Jacob and Wilhelm on the market square Neustädter Marktplatz. From there, the unique route leads through five other stations in the lives of the famous brothers and more than fifty places celebrating fairy tales and legends all the way to Bremen.
The route leads through various natural and cultural landscapes, remote villages, cosy half-timbered towns, urban cultural centres, and through the GrimmHeimat NordHessen. Legendary castles and fairytale palaces, enchanted forests, the famous Weser River, mystical places of legend, and countless fairytale fountains accompany the route. Along the road, we meet friendly heroes like Mother Hulda, Rapunzel, Red Riding Hood, and the Bremen Town Musicians, while the Pied Piper of Hamelin, the Baron of Munchhausen, and Dr. Eisenbart tell a very different story. The sculpture of the Bremen Town Musicians in front of the Ratskeller marks the end of the journey.
