Höxter for Fairy Tale Enthusiasts
The Brothers Grimm were well acquainted with Höxter. They maintained close friendships in the town and collected several of their fairy tales and legends here. Today, a fountain featuring bronze figures of Hansel and Gretel welcomes visitors in the pedestrian precinct.
Every October, Höxter celebrates its popular Fairy Tale Sunday, when storytellers, puppet theatre performers, and fairy-tale characters transform the historic town centre into a magical stage. It is an enchanting experience enjoyed by visitors of all ages.
The Fairy Tale Society, part of the Local Heritage and Tourism Association, organises a varied annual programme for children and adults alike. Fairy-tale walks, themed dinners, readings, and lectures by renowned speakers bring the magical world of stories to life, and visitors are always warmly welcome.

Visitors are equally impressed by the magnificent palace and the Princely Library, where the poet August Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben once worked as librarian.
