Niedenstein

Climatic Health Resort with the Hessenturm Tower

Niedenstein is a charming small town surrounded by nature, stretching across the south-western slopes of the Niedensteiner Kopf hill on the edge of the Habichtswald forest. Around 5,400 people live in its five districts and proudly call Niedenstein home.

Niedenstein for Fairy Tale Enthusiasts

A fairy-tale royal couple is also at home here. As the official fairy-tale patron of the Brothers Grimm story King Thrushbeard, the town is occasionally visited by the King himself and his proud, stubborn Princess. These living fairy-tale characters represent Niedenstein at events and can sometimes be encountered wandering through the enchanting forests and meadows that invite visitors to relax and unwind.

Niedenstein for Holidaymakers and Day Visitors

Nature lovers will find plenty to enjoy on more than 70 kilometres of hiking trails, six Nordic walking routes of varying difficulty, and an additional premium route connecting to the Habichtswaldsteig long-distance trail. The scenic route On the Wings of the Hawk also forms part of this outstanding hiking network.

The landscape, characterised by distinctive basalt hills, rewards walkers with magnificent panoramic views across the surrounding valleys and the homeland of the Brothers Grimm.

For recreation and leisure, Niedenstein also offers an indoor swimming pool, tennis courts, sports and leisure facilities, and a lively community with numerous clubs and associations.

Niedenstein lies in one of Hesse's most historically significant regions. The ruins of Falkenstein Castle, the prehistoric hillfort of Altenburg, and an ancient dancing lime tree all bear witness to its rich past. Local legend tells the story of the Young Dogs, one of the area's traditional folk tales.

High above the town, at an elevation of 475 metres, the Hessenturm Tower, Niedenstein's landmark, overlooks the surrounding countryside. Comfortable holiday apartments, guesthouses, and two campsites—one of them for naturists—offer visitors a warm welcome and a relaxing stay.

In Niedenstein, you'll soon feel completely at home. The town looks forward to welcoming you.
