The original “German Fairy Tale Route Working Group”, which was not constituted as a legal entity, was dissolved with effect from 1 January 2007 upon the establishment of “Deutsche Märchenstraße e. V.”. The registered association had 41 members when it was founded; today, it is supported by around 70 towns, municipalities and other local authorities.
Every two years, the General Assembly elects a six-member Executive Board and a Marketing Committee consisting of up to ten members.
The full-time team at the offices in Kassel and Hofgeismar coordinates the work of these governing bodies and implements their decisions.
All activities are guided by the association’s twofold purpose, as defined in Section 2 of its Articles of Association:
- to help preserve and promote German fairy tales, sagas and legends, as well as the cultural heritage of the Brothers Grimm; and
- to establish the German Fairy Tale Route sustainably as a high-quality cultural tourism brand and one of Germany’s most important scenic routes.
