The Brothers Grimm’s Children’s and Household Tales are known around the world and have been included in UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register. Yet Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm were much more than collectors of fairy tales: as linguists, legal scholars and politically engaged academics, they made a lasting contribution to German language and culture.
These teaching materials invite learners to follow in the brothers’ footsteps along the German Fairy Tale Route. They are designed to expand knowledge of Germany and improve receptive and productive language skills. The exercises also build topic-related vocabulary and incorporate selected grammar structures.
The materials are suitable for teaching German as a foreign language at approximately A2 to B2 level. They can be used to prepare for or follow up on a visit to the German Fairy Tale Route, combining language learning with authentic cultural experiences. The learner-centred activities offer different levels of difficulty and can be used alongside regular course materials or during a trip through Germany.
