Morschen

A Place to Love

The municipality of Morschen, located in North Hesse's Schwalm-Eder district, consists of seven picturesque villages. This beautiful low mountain landscape is shaped by the wide Fulda Valley, with its lush meadows, enchanting forests, and expansive floodplains that create a truly fairy-tale setting.

Morschen for Fairy Tale Enthusiasts

Altmorschen, the oldest and largest of the seven villages, is home to the magnificent Haydau Monastery, which has awakened from its own "Sleeping Beauty" slumber to shine once again. Founded in the 13th century as a Cistercian convent, Haydau Monastery is now one of the region's most impressive historic landmarks and among the most popular attractions in the Schwalm-Eder district.

Neumorschen, the second-largest village, is characterised by its historic market street, whose gently winding course, partly accompanied by an open water channel, blends harmoniously with its beautifully preserved half-timbered houses.

The Local Heritage Museum in the village of Wichte, together with its lovingly restored historic village square, offers a nostalgic glimpse into the rural traditions of the region through an extensive collection of historical exhibits.

In Konnefeld, visitors can discover a former gypsum lake, now home to a remarkably diverse range of plants and wildlife, while enjoying magnificent views across the Fulda Valley.

The small village of Heina occupies a legendary hilltop setting surrounded by beech forests, showcasing the North Hessian uplands at their most beautiful.

Directly on the banks of the River Fulda lies the peaceful village of Binsförth, where the well-preserved 16th-century manor estate and the village church together create an especially picturesque ensemble.

Morschen for Holidaymakers and Day Visitors

Morschen offers a unique atmosphere where tradition and innovation, nature and culture, local heritage and openness to the world come together in perfect harmony.

A leisurely stroll through the charming villages, with their historic half-timbered houses, inviting village squares, and winding lanes, evokes memories of times gone by. The carefully preserved buildings still retain much of their original character and allow visitors to experience the region's rich architectural heritage firsthand.

Today, the beautifully restored Haydau Monastery is once again becoming an important cultural and social centre. Concerts, exhibitions, conferences, seminars, and private celebrations regularly take place within its historic walls.

Culture extends beyond the monastery itself. The Haydau Palace, the Orangery, the former Stables, the monastery courtyard, and the monastery gardens all provide distinctive venues for a wide range of cultural events throughout the year.

Come and discover the fairy-tale charm of Morschen—and let yourself be enchanted.
