The Kassel State Theater encompasses the genres of opera, concerts, drama, dance, and the Young State Theater. Its state orchestra is the one with the longest tradition in Germany and looks back on over 500 years of history. Starting with the 2025–2026 season, the opera department’s productions will be staged at the Interim.
The Staatstheater Kassel comprises opera, concert, drama, dance and the Junges Staatstheater.

The Staatstheater Kassel with its opera house and playhouse has been located on Friedrichsplatz since 1959. In 1983, the "Theater im Fridericianum", or "tif" for short, was added as a studio stage with 99 seats. Around 500 staff on and off stage ensure that the audience is offered a programme of a high artistic standard every season. 30 new productions in music theatre, drama, dance theatre, children's and youth theatre, as well as symphony, chamber, family, schoolchildren's and special concerts form a wide range of offerings year after year.
