It is a house to marvel at, to learn - and to participate in: At the Deutsches Goldschmiedehaus - home of the Gesellschaft für Goldschmiedekunst - in Hanau, you can see its impressive collection of more than 1,200 pieces of jewelry and tableware. A show workshop in the basement gives you an insight into the individual work steps of goldsmiths, their tools and the various materials.
Children from the age of eight can make their own piece of jewelry here in regular workshops under the guidance of a goldsmith.
The building itself is also a real gem: The former town hall of the old town was built in 1538 in the half-timbered style of the early Renaissance and quickly became one of Hanau's landmarks. After it was largely destroyed in the Second World War, it was faithfully rebuilt in the 1950s.
