The main part of St. Aegidien Church was destroyed in 1626 by the explosion of a powder keg in a neighboring building. From 1684 the reconstruction took place in the baroque style, which was completed with the consecration of the church house in 1733.
In 1727, Doctor Eisenbart was buried in a crypt in the choir in front of the altar. His baroque tombstone - with the wrong year of birth - was placed on the north side of the church in 1837. The St. Aegidienkirche was divested in 2006 due to financial problems and the ever smaller parish.
The support group St. Aegidien-Kirche e.V. is committed to ensuring that it is used again for the purpose for which it was once built.
